Brooklyn Bedding vs Casper Mattress

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the original Casper have been very popular online mattresses. Both beds are all-foam products, so they are pretty similar in that regard. Other than the type of foam used, these two mattresses are also similar in price. Neither mattress has a very expensive foundation underneath it, although both do cost more than some of the other mattresses on the market. Of course, price isn’t necessarily a good indicator of quality, so if you’re planning on buying an online mattress I definitely recommend reading reviews for each before making a decision.

A quick look at these two mattresses will reveal very different beds. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature made headlines recently due to its high-quality cotton elastic cover, while the Casper has become a serious contender to be one of the best mattresses out there in 2018 due to its revolutionary support and comforting feel. With both of these products so popular, it is difficult to choose between the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the Original Casper because even though these products might seem very similar, they are built with slightly different intentions.

Are you unsure which of these well-reviewed mattresses is right for you? Continue reading for a detailed comparison of Brooklyn Bedding vs. Casper! We’ll compare the Brooklyn Bedding Signature’s Medium model to the Casper Original’s all-foam version. Everything from firmness and feel to construction and performance will be considered in this mattress comparison. Let’s see how these mattresses fare!

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Vs Casper Overview

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is the flagship mattress from the Brooklyn Bedding brand. Featuring individually-pocketed coil technology that’s quite similar to the new wave of “hybrid” mattresses, this bed also offers a memory foam layer for enhanced pressure relief. This mattress will be available in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. For this comparison, we’re looking at the Medium model.

Original Casper mattresses are all-foam mattresses with Zoned Support. The zoning makes the mattress firmer near the center of the bed (for added spinal support) and softer near the head and foot (for added comfort) (for added pressure relief). It’s made to fit your body’s unique contours and curves, providing support where you need it most. You’ll find these beds appealing to different types of sleepers; we’ve compiled  a quick overview below.

  • People who want to select from a variety of firmness options
  • Those who sleep hot and need a cool mattress
  • People who want to spend a little less money
  • Sleepers who require a balance of comfort and support in a variety of positions.
  • Those who require a mattress to alleviate back pain.
  • Those who prefer a mattress made entirely of foam

Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the original Casper are manufactured by different  brands and feature different constructions. There are still a few things they have in common, however.

  • Both mattresses are sold by companies that provide excellent customer service.
  • Both of these beds are responsive and easy to move around in.
  • Both beds provide a nice mix of comfort and support.

There are more differences between these beds than similarities, as you might expect. I’ll give you a quick rundown.

  • The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a hybrid mattress, whereas the Casper model is an all-foam mattress.
  • In their comfort layers, they use a variety of materials. (The Brooklyn Bedding Signature uses TitanFlex foam, which is proprietary to Brooklyn Bedding; the Casper uses perforated AirScape foam.)
  • The Casper comes with a Zoned Support system, whereas the Signature doesn’t.
  • The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is available in three firmness levels, whereas the Casper is only available in one.
  • The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a little less expensive than the Casper Original.

Firmness And Feel Differences (Including Firmness Rating)

Firmness and feel are two important considerations to think about prior to trying a mattress in person. Because no matter how comfortable and supportive the mattress appears to be in the store, bringing it home ends up being a totally different experience. So let’s get right to the meat of this comparison by examining the firmness and feel of both the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the original all-foam Casper mattresses.

On the firmness scale, we gave the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Medium model a 6.5 out of 10. Because the industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature is considered medium-firm. Meanwhile, we gave the Casper a 7/10, which is slightly firmer than average.

It’s worth noting, however, that firmness is somewhat subjective. You may find these beds firmer or softer than our assessment depending on your body weight and personal preferences.

Sleeping On The Brooklyn Bedding And Casper Mattresses

We slept on both mattresses for a while. Continue reading to find out how we felt in each of the sleeping positions.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature

I sleep on my side and have some shoulder pain. After sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress, I felt like my shoulders weren’t as tender in the morning. The firmness of the mattresses provided ample support for our hips and shoulders.

Perhaps the most important factor in the Brooklyn Bedding Signature’s comfort is that it never felt like it wasn’t giving me enough support. This bed tends to be on the firmer side as far as memory foam mattresses go, which we think will fit many sleepers just fine.

During our time on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, we also enjoyed borderline-incredible edge support and very good sinkage.

We spent a few weeks sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, and we’re ready to share our experience. When fully corrected, most stomach sleepers will have their hips / shoulders above their head in a natural position. We were curious if the Brooklyn Bedding mattress would be able to support our weight while sleeping in this position.

Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding mattress was a good, but not extraordinary, experience. While it felt conforming and provided good support for stomach sleepers including us, heavier-weight sleepers might require an additional layer of support to prevent bottoming out. Considering its price point, we think this mattress offers a lot of value in terms of comfort, and we recommend it.

Casper

All in all, we slept great on the Casper without any complaints, which can be rare for a mattress (especially for back sleepers).  It’s the perfect combination of comfort and support that will easily fit into any bed frame and provide you with a great night’s sleep.

While sleeping on my stomach and back, Casper is fine. I can arch my low back into the mattress and there is a supportive feeling that lets me know the mattress isn’t squishy. To feel like it was doing its job properly though, I enjoyed sleeping on the Casper more in side-sleeping positions.”

The Brooklyn Signature mattress has an innerspring layer, with a little bit of foam on top of that. It’s quite bouncy, and I was impressed with how easy this bed was to move around on. That said, it did offer just a bit of contouring and pressure relief, which was nice at night.

Foam feels very bouncy and responsive on the Casper. It’s quite easy to move around and change positions on this mattress, despite it being all foam. I found myself falling asleep very quickly with little effort, in part because of the immediate relaxation I felt from the Casper.

Best Mattress For Side Sleepers

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

The Brooklyn Signature is an all-foam mattress. While this type of construction is typically lacking in support, Brooklyn has used generous polyfoam to make up for the lack of coils. And this has led to a mattress that’s a great match for average-weight back sleepers (130 – 230lbs), who should enjoy a balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers with an average weight (130 – 200lbs) will also perform well on this model, obtaining adequate pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.

While the Signature provides adequate spinal support for stomach sleepers, those who sleep on their stomachs all night should consider the Casper or Firm models of the Signature.

The Casper mattress is a great fit for average-weight sleepers thanks to its balanced combination of sinkage / hug and support / pressure relief. The softer layers align with heavier folks’ tendencies to sink more deeply into their mattress while the firmer top layer supports heavier folks’ lumbar regions. The support layers beneath the top layer do a good job supporting side, back, and stomach sleepers.

Best Mattress For Back Pain

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress should offer good spinal support to most side sleepers. Side sleepers tend to sleep in the same position all night, but back sleepers and stomach sleepers will tend to change positions during the night. Because of that, I think back and stomach-sleepers are going to want a more supportive mattress overall, such as the Brooklyn Bedding Titan, which is made for heavy people.

The Signature’s contouring memory foam will likely be too firm and thus uncomfortable for all but the most weight-sensitive stomach sleepers. Heavyweight back sleepers will reportedly appreciate the mattress’ long-lasting firmness and superior support.

Heavyweight back sleepers might prefer the support of the Signature’s coils or would feel better on a more supportive mattress for heavy people. The Casper is almost as firm as the Signature, making it unsuitable for heavyweight side sleepers. Casper’s most supportive mattress works best for back sleepers that weigh less than 230 lbs who like a firm mattress and don’t mind Casper’s hug. Heavyweight stomach sleepers weighing less than 300 pounds may find that the Casper provides adequate spinal support; those weighing more than that will likely need a more supportive mattress.

Best Mattress For Stomach Sleepers

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

The Signature is the middle-of-the-pack mattress of the Brooklyn Bedding line, and is designed to be a nice all-around option for people of different sizes and shapes. Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy a nice blend of pressure relief and support on this mattress.

Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief on this mattress, which will conform around their shoulders and hips but still give them some support. And lightweight stomach sleepers should find adequate support on this mattress.

If you have a lighter build and are relatively flexible, the Casper Lightweight Sleepers may be a good match. These types of sleepers will probably appreciate the support the Casper provides on the sides, and may especially enjoy the extra support in the lumbar area. Stomach sleepers should keep looking, because they will likely find a softer mattress more comfortable.

Mattress Construction

Performance

You’ve read this far, which means you’ve learned a lot about the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the Casper! There are, however, a few important factors to  consider. Both of these beds were subjected to a battery of tests, including temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how they stacked up!

Check out our other Brooklyn Bedding and Casper comparisons, such as Brooklyn Bedding vs Leesa and Casper vs Tuft & Needle, to see how these mattresses stack up against the competition.

Despite its bouncy and responsive nature, the Casper wins this category. The Casper does a better job of absorbing movement and minimizing disturbance across the surface of the mattress because it has a plusher layer of foam on top. For couples, this could be the better mattress.

The supportive coils and additional perimeter coils of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature win out here. While sitting and lying near the mattress’s edges, we felt more secure.

The best sex mattress allows partners to easily switch positions. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the Casper are both responsive beds, so you should be fine with either one. The Signature’s coils may make it even easier to move around.

Both of these mattresses had a small amount of off-gassing at first. This went away after a few days.

This is a nail-biter! Both of these mattresses are constructed of long-lasting materials and are expected to last between 7 and 10 years.

We didn’t notice any noticeable noise from either of these beds at the time of our review. However, because the Brooklyn Bedding Signature includes coils, it’s possible that these coils will begin to squeak over time.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature wins because of its coils, which allow for plenty of airflow through the mattress’s center. Consider the Casper Hybrid if you prefer the Casper but are concerned about breathability.
