Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Review

Brooklyn Bedding was an online mattress company that launched in 2008 and sells “bed-in-a-box” mattresses. Over the years, the company has released several mattress models, including the Signature, Aurora, Bloom Hybrid, Bowery Hybrid, and Spartan. We will be reviewing the Brooklyn Bedding Signature  mattress, which is a hybrid model.

Brooklyn Bedding’s Signature mattress is the product of over ten years of research into what makes for a truly comfortable mattress. The Signature has a comfort layer of gel-infused TitanFlex polyfoam, which has a latex-like responsiveness. This is followed by a layer of firm Energex polyfoam. The support core consists of 6-inch pocketed coils reinforced with a layer of base polyfoam. Altogether, this mattress measures 11.5 inches thick.

Brooklyn Bedding offers three firmness levels for its Signature collection: soft, medium, and firm. On our firmness scale of 1-10, each corresponds to a different number: medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (8). Each feel offers a distinct  combination of body-contouring and sleeper support, and most people are able to find a firmness that is suitable for them. Another Brooklyn Bedding mattress may be more suitable if none of these work for you. There is also the all-foam Bowery, as well as four hybrids: the Aurora Hybrid, Bloom Hybrid,  Bowery Hybrid, and Spartan Hybrid.

We will discuss the Brooklyn Bedding Signature’s construction detail, price, and performance rating, along with Brooklyn Bedding’s return and warranty policies, below.

Mattresses that conform to your body are the most comfortable for you. Although the coils provide strong support and some responsiveness on the surface, you will still sink into the mattress. Side sleepers and people who weigh less than 130 pounds are likely to prefer softer mattresses.

You want a good mix of support and contouring. Even though the coils provide strong reinforcement and the models don’t conform very closely, you’ll sink a little – especially if you weigh 130 pounds or more. Sleepers on their sides and backs prefer mattresses with a mid-level surface feel. This firmness level, according to Brooklyn Bedding, is their best-seller.

You’d rather sleep on a mattress that’s firm and supportive, with little to no conforming. You barely sink beneath the surface because the foam layers maintain a very even plane. People who weigh more than 230 pounds, especially back and stomach sleepers, will likely prefer this firmness level over the other two.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Review Breakdown

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a luxurious mattress built with a combination of gel-infused layer, luxurious memory foam, and two inches of our high-performance coil system. Designed to provide you with years of deep, restful sleep, it features soft conforming comfort layers and coils located at the proper angle for optimal support.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress has a 12 inch thick, 13.8 pound memory foam mattress that consists of 2 inches of TitanFlex gel infused polyfoam that is further reinforced with 2 inches of Energex polyfoam.

The Brooklyn Signature mattress is built to provide you with a luxurious, yet comfortable surface to rest on. Featuring a 2-inch comfort layer of TitanFlex polyfoam, and a customized tufted cotton cover quilted with polyfoam, this bed offers just the right amount of sink for additional support.

A good hybrid mattress combines the support of innerspring coils with the comfort of memory foam, softening the transition from a firm coil-supported surface to a plush layer of memory foam. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress includes a 6-inch coil system atop an inch-thick layer of high-density polyfoam for a hybrid mattress that’s both supportive and plush.

Your Signature mattress is uniquely constructed from a “core and coils” design, enabling plush comfort with exceptional back support . The layers of the Brooklyn Signature support system are built together for a smoother feel. You can choose a soft, medium firm, or firm feel for your mattress. Regardless of which one you choose, you can be confident that your Signature will continue to provide optimal support as it sleeps cool, and bounces back faster when you sit on it.

Depending on your Signature, you may choose a medium firm, a medium soft, or a firm feel. Based on the combination of body-contouring and support that you prefer, the firmness level that feels most comfortable will differ. There is a soft feel that conforms closely, a firm feel that barely conforms, and a medium firm feel that remains very supportive while contouring a little.

Measuring 11.5 inches thick, the Signature is considered a medium-profile mattress.

What is Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Made of?

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Adjustable Base

Brooklyn Bedding Signature

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a hybrid mattress with two layers of proprietary polyfoams over a support core of pocketed coils that compress into a final layer of high-density polyfoam.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

It costs $949 for a queen-sized Signature. In comparison with other competing hybrids, especially those with memory foam and/or latex comfort layers, this price-point is low. Pricing is not affected by firmness selection. You’ll pay the same amount whether you choose a medium soft, medium firm, or firm model.

The Signature has a middle-of-the-road sticker price compared to other Brooklyn Bedding models. A Bowery and Bowery Hybrid costs less, but it costs more than an Aurora, Bloom, or Spartan Hybrid.

If you live in the lower 48 states, ground shipping is free. Expect to pay at least $125 for orders to Alaska or Hawaii. For Canadian orders, shipping starts  at $250.

Mattress Performance

Despite its bouncy and responsive nature, the Casper wins this category. The Casper does a better job of absorbing movement and minimizing disturbance across the surface of the mattress because it has a plusher layer of foam on top. For couples, this could be the better mattress.

The supportive coils and additional perimeter coils of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature win out here. While sitting and lying near the mattress’s edges, we felt more secure.

The best sex mattress allows partners to easily switch positions. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature and the Casper are both responsive beds, so you should be fine with either one. The Signature’s coils may make it even easier to move around.

Both of these mattresses had a small amount of off-gassing at first. This went away after a few days.

This is a nail-biter! Both of these mattresses are constructed of long-lasting materials and are expected to last between 7 and 10 years.

We didn’t notice any noticeable noise from either of these beds at the time of our review. However, because the Brooklyn Bedding Signature includes coils, it’s possible that these coils will begin to squeak over time.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature wins because of its coils, which allow for plenty of airflow through the mattress’s center. Consider the Casper Hybrid if you prefer the Casper but are concerned about breathability.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

Brooklyn Bedding Signature – Soft

Best Mattress For Side Sleepers

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

The Brooklyn Signature is an all-foam mattress. While this type of construction is typically lacking in support, Brooklyn has used generous polyfoam to make up for the lack of coils. And this has led to a mattress that’s a great match for average-weight back sleepers (130 – 230lbs), who should enjoy a balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers with an average weight (130 – 200lbs) will also perform well on this model, obtaining adequate pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.

While the Signature provides adequate spinal support for stomach sleepers, those who sleep on their stomachs all night should consider the Casper or Firm models of the Signature.

The Casper mattress is a great fit for average-weight sleepers thanks to its balanced combination of sinkage / hug and support / pressure relief. The softer layers align with heavier folks’ tendencies to sink more deeply into their mattress while the firmer top layer supports heavier folks’ lumbar regions. The support layers beneath the top layer do a good job supporting side, back, and stomach sleepers.

Best Mattress For Back Pain

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress should offer good spinal support to most side sleepers. Side sleepers tend to sleep in the same position all night, but back sleepers and stomach sleepers will tend to change positions during the night. Because of that, I think back and stomach-sleepers are going to want a more supportive mattress overall, such as the Brooklyn Bedding Titan, which is made for heavy people.

The Signature’s contouring memory foam will likely be too firm and thus uncomfortable for all but the most weight-sensitive stomach sleepers. Heavyweight back sleepers will reportedly appreciate the mattress’ long-lasting firmness and superior support.

Heavyweight back sleepers might prefer the support of the Signature’s coils or would feel better on a more supportive mattress for heavy people. The Casper is almost as firm as the Signature, making it unsuitable for heavyweight side sleepers. Casper’s most supportive mattress works best for back sleepers that weigh less than 230 lbs who like a firm mattress and don’t mind Casper’s hug. Heavyweight stomach sleepers weighing less than 300 pounds may find that the Casper provides adequate spinal support; those weighing more than that will likely need a more supportive mattress.

Best Mattress For Stomach Sleepers

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

The Signature is the middle-of-the-pack mattress of the Brooklyn Bedding line, and is designed to be a nice all-around option for people of different sizes and shapes. Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy a nice blend of pressure relief and support on this mattress.

Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief on this mattress, which will conform around their shoulders and hips but still give them some support. And lightweight stomach sleepers should find adequate support on this mattress.

If you have a lighter build and are relatively flexible, the Casper Lightweight Sleepers may be a good match. These types of sleepers will probably appreciate the support the Casper provides on the sides, and may especially enjoy the extra support in the lumbar area. Stomach sleepers should keep looking, because they will likely find a softer mattress more comfortable.

Customers in the contiguous United States receive free ground shipping via FedEx. Customers in Alaska and Hawaii pay $125 for delivery, while those in Canada pay $250. The majority of customers receive their mattress within three to five business days of ordering it.

The Signature is compressed, plastic-wrapped, and vacuum-sealed in order to fit into a standard shipping box. Carry the mattress box to the room where you plan to use it and place it on its new foundation when it arrives. After removing the plastic wrapping with a knife, open the box and watch the mattress expand. Within 24 to 48 hours, the Signature should be fully formed.

The sleep trial for the Signature lasts 120 nights. Before you can return or exchange a mattress from Brooklyn Bedding, you must try it out for at least 30 nights.

After 30 nights have passed, you may return the mattress for a full refund. For those who want to return their mattress, the company also has options. Brooklyn Bedding may be able to modify the mattress or provide a topper to make the surface more comfortable if you are not satisfied with the bed during your sleep trial.

The Signature is covered by a 10-year warranty that isn’t prorated in any way. If the mattress becomes defective before the warranty expires, Brooklyn Bedding will cover all repair or replacement costs.

Body impressions in the surface that are at least 1 inch deep, as well as manufacturing flaws that cause materials to split, crack, or deteriorate prematurely, are covered defects. If you leave your mattress in its shipping box for more than 60 days and damage occurs as a result, Brooklyn Bedding will void the warranty.
